4-Step Checklist to Get on the Ballot
- Find Your Precinct: Go to http://mi.gov/vote to find your precinct number.

Complete the Affidavit: Fill out the Affidavit of Identity.
- Note: Ensure your name is written exactly as you want it on the ballot.

Get it Notarized: Your signature must be witnessed by a Notary Public.
- Tip: Free notarization is available at the Ingham County Clerk's office.
- File the Form: Submit the notarized form to your county, city, or township clerk by May 5, 2026 (4:00 pm).

The Ingham County Clerk provides this service free of charge. Also, the County Party has at least one notary at county meetings.

How many votes do I need to win?
The "One Vote" Rule: A delegate can be elected with just one vote, as the previous three-vote minimum has been removed.

What if I have opposition?
If you have opposition, contact your neighbors, friends, and family who reside in your precinct and ask for their support. Remember to vote.

How do I know if I am elected?
If elected, you will be notified by the county clerk via mail.

What if I want to withdraw?
If you change your mind, you can withdraw within three days of the filing deadline.

What are my convention duties?
You will represent your neighborhood at the district or county convention in August to elect delegates for the state convention.

What if I want to help my neighborhood get out the vote but don't want to be on the ballot?
If you don’t want to be on the ballot or care to do the paperwork but want to help get out the vote in your neighborhood, you can be recognized by ICDP as a “precinct captain.”
